Mark has founded and led multiple organizations in the coworking, hospitality, franchising and commercial real estate industries with annual revenues from $10m to $30m and 25 to 750 employees.
Work Simple, his latest venture and in partnership with Koelbel and Company, is exploiting the structural changes in the traditional office industry by acquiring distressed buildings and converting them to dedicated flex office ecosystems.
Prior to Work Simple, Mark founded Office Evolution in 2003. The team and its franchisees expanded OE into North America’s largest co-working franchisor. As of April 2023, OE has 80 locations in 25 states. In addition to embracing its powerful culture called “Ohana”, OE won numerous awards including the Franchise 500 award every year from 2017 through 2022, been listed in the Inc 5000 twice and a winner of one of Franchise Business Review’s top awards.
Mark successfully exited Office Evolution in April 2022 with its sale to an affiliate of the United Franchise Group.
Prior to founding Office Evolution, Mark worked in the family-owned real estate development business lead by his father, Christopher B. Hemmeter. He was involved in many large and complicated hospitality projects, including resort hotels, casinos, retail stores and restaurants. He was a key member of the development team for three $200,000,000+ development projects in Hawaii including the Marriott Kauai, Westin Maui, and Hyatt, now Hilton, Waikoloa. He was president and led the development of the two Bullwhacker's casinos in Colorado in 1991 with a total development cost in excess of $20,000,000, and he was a member of the senior management team who developed three casinos in New Orleans and participated in the $140,000,000 bond offering to finance them.
Mark is a student of leadership and culture, an active member of YPO for 25 years, a Vistage member for 7 years, an implementer of EOS in his role as visionary, and a participant and volunteer with PSI. He is also a huge fan of Patrick Lencioni and Simon Sinek. His passions in business include real estate, developing scalable business platforms, supporting entrepreneurs, and developing powerful cultures and teams.
Outside of the office Mark has visited over 51 countries and climbed twenty-four, 14,000-foot peaks in Colorado. Originally from Honolulu, Mark graduated from the University of Colorado College of Business, has been married since 1987 to his high school sweetheart, and has three daughters and two grandchildren.
